Ysgol Gyfun Y Strade entertain the shoppers

THE wonderful musical tones drifting through the St Elli Shopping Centre today, Wednesday (Dec 20) were courtesy of the pupils of Ysgol Gyfun y Strade who were situated on the balcony overlooking the main square in the centre.

The choir were accompanied by the school band and they played a mixture of traditional Christmas carols in Welsh. Shoppers took time out to stand and listen to the pupils performing giving them a warm and generous applause following each song.

There was a definite Christmas glow emanating throughout the town today with only four shopping days left until Christmas. Town seemed busier than usual and the man in red was spotted on several occasions including a stint at Llanelly House where he handed out chocolates to children.

Even the ancient Mari Lwyd made an appearance courtesy of Ymlaen Llanelli The BID and Llanelli Town Council.

One big surprise was the presence of armed police on the streets. Specialist assets and armed officers have been deployed to keep people safe at this busy time, and Dyfed-Powys Police  ask that you don’t be alarmed if you see them. They are there to protect you, and are a friendly bunch if you want to speak to them.

We will be uploading a film we made of the musical event soon.
