The West End came to the West End of Llanelli on Sunday, (Jul 9) as Llanelli girl, Samantha Thomas who has joined the London cast of Wicked as Ensemble/ 1st Cover Glinda attended the Mayor of Llanelli’s Civic Ceremony.
Llanelli Parish Church was packed to the rafters as the town mayor Jeff Edmunds and his party walked in the footsteps of 42 former mayors from the Town Council offices to the Parish Church dressed in the traditional red robes and tricorn hats.
The mayor was accompanied by his consort Lauren Edmunds, Deputy Mayor Louvain Roberts, her consort, Vanessa Rees, Mace Bearer Peter Killick and the Town Clerk, Gary Jones.
The ceremony was conducted by Reverend Eldon Phillips who presented the story of the Good Samaritan. He said that his message was on of intergenerational community support.
Children from Stebonheath provided two musical items, which received rapturous applause from the congregation. There were two readings, the first from Matthew 11 read by Gary Jones the Town Clerk. The second was by Arfon Davies reading from Genesis 24.
Following the service the Mayor’s party and civic dignitaries including Nia Griffith MP and Lt David Mathias posed for photographs on the church steps before returning to the Town Council offices for a buffet and light refreshments.
