THE French rugby team Agen Lot-et-Garonne arrived in West Wales yesterday, Friday (Mar 16) and were given a warm welcome by the New Dock Stars RFC team and supporters at their clubhouse with a buffet and live music from ‘The Voice’ star Ragsy.
Also there to greet Jean Dionis du Séjour the mayor of Agen was Llanelli’s mayor Cllr Jeff Edmunds.
Llanelli and Agen became twin towns in 1989 and there have been regular visits between the two towns and an association with the New Dock Stars RFC club.
Llanelli Town formally entered into a twinning link with the Agen on 1st July, 1989. The Town of Agen is situated between Toulouse and Bordeaux, with a population of approximately 35,000 inhabitants.
The main industry is agriculture, and the town boasts the sixth largest distribution centre in France for marketing fruit and vegetables.
On Saturday, (Mar 17) a special rugby match took place between New Dock Stars RFC and Agen Lot-et-Garonne.
It was a very entertaining match with both sides running in plenty of tries to entertain those who had come to watch. Perhaps quite fittingly the match ended 41 – 41.
The mayors of both towns enjoyed the game and joined both teams for the after match celebrations.
