Town power supply cut as fire takes hold at Ty Elwyn

The Emergency services were called out to an incident in Llanelli Town Centre late in the evening of Monday (Nov 13). At approximately 10:20 pm Llanelli Online received a call to say that police had closed off roads around the Ty Elwyn and that the fire service and an ambulance crew were in attendance.

Our reporter Iwan Lewis arrived at the scene at around Approximately 11:15pm

At 11:20: Iwan reported that two fire engines, one ambulance and at least six police vehicles were at the scene and that Old Castle Road had been closed. It is understood that a fire broke out at the base of the Ty Elwyn building and spread to an electricity generator. Part of the town wlost electricity power as a result.It is also understood that at least two people have been taken into custody.

Dyfed-Powys Police issued the following statement: “Dyfed-Powys Police responded to a report of a fire at Ty Elwyn, Llanelli, at just after 10pm this evening (Monday, November 13).

“We understand the incident has caused buildings in the vicinity to lose power. The relevant authorities have been made aware of this.

“Two people have been detained by officers – one of whom required medical treatment at the scene, while the other was conveyed to hospital.

“The medical treatment required by both individuals was not as a result of the fire.

“Efforts are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, as well as to restore electricity to those affected.

“Any witnesses, or anyone with any information, is asked to contact police on 101.”
