A strange sight greeted any visitors to Burry Port Harbour on Sunday (Mar 11) as a mud rescue training exercise was being carried out by H.M.Coastguard Burry Port along with their colleagues from Llansteffan and Chepstow. The drill involved the use of a lot of mud and some very specialised equipment.
The men and women donned what looked like huge platform shoes, which spared them from sinking in the estuary mud.
Andrew James drew the short straw and was left marooned in the mud sinking rapidly as is the case if you do venture out onto the mud flats in some areas of the estuary.
Judging by the wonderful pics from our man on the spot but not in the mud Dai Lenscap, they were hard at it digging poor Andrew out for some time.
It all ended well as the crew successfully removed Andrew and took him back onto clean dry land where he was promptly hosed down ready for his next mission.
