Storm Emma closes Carmarthenshire’s Schools

A large number of schools in Carmarthenshire are closed today as a direct result of Storm Emma and the adverse weather conditions.

Heavy snow fell overnight in parts of the county and temperatures dropped to -3 with temperatures remaining at -1 today, Friday (Mar 2).

Patches of snow and ice have made driving conditions difficult especially on the high ground.

The BBC weather forecast for the next couple of days is;

Further bands of snow, heavy in places, are likely to spread north across parts of England, Wales and Northern Ireland during Friday. Through Friday evening ice may form on untreated road and pavements, particularly across southern England and parts of South Wales. Delays and cancellations to public transport are possible, as are delays to travel on roads; some stranding of vehicles and passengers could also occur. Some rural communities could become cut off. Interruptions to power supplies and mobile phone coverage are also possible.

Snow showers are expected to continue over parts of northern Britain, bringing further accumulations of snow and a risk of icy stretches. Further delays to travel and public transport could occur, whilst some rural communities could become or remain cut off. Further impacts to power supplies/mobile phone coverage are also possible.
