PLANS for a garden and seated area at Llanelli station have hit a bit of a wall.
Network Rail have asked the Friends of Llanelli Station to reconsider a lease arrangement for a small parcel of land to the west of the station entrance.
Speaking about the delay Shadow Secretary of State for Defence, Nia Griffith MP said: “The plans have been drawn up. There have been consultation on the plans. We have the planning permission on the way. We have made a massive effort to get rid of the debris. With spring here we are doing some more groundwork.
“We are slightly disappointed as we were set to make an entrance into the wall. We now have Network Rail wanting to restart a negotiation on a lease agreement. I find it extraordinary that they didn’t get this right the first time round. I hope it gets sorted quickly so we don’t get caught up in bureaucracy.
“The station is the gateway to Llanelli and there needs to be more investment in this area. It is important that people get a good impression when they arrive here. We have the Arriva old parcel’s office being used by the Heart of Wales Line Association and they are happy to work with other people to try and use that as a gateway.
“We would like to get some information boards, get this garden looking wonderful and looking at long term plans for the station.”
