Snow and ice warning for Llanelli

A yellow weather warning has been given for Llanelli and the surrounding areas for this weekend.

There were snow showers in Llanelli on Saturday night (Mar 17) and snow on the high ground in Carmarthenshire.

The Met Office say that snow showers are likely to continue throughout Sunday.

There is also a warning for ice as temperatures reach -2 degrees.

The cold weather may bring disruption to transport, with possible road closures and some rail services delayed or cancelled.

The forecast for the next few days is:

Bitterly cold with strong easterly winds; prolonged snowfall overnight.

Strong easterly winds will continue to bring bitterly cold conditions this evening and overnight. Snow showers will continue, with growing accumulations particularly over the hills. An area of more prolonged snowfall will affect South Wales in the early hours. Minimum temperature -4 °C.

Sunday:
Snow will continue to fall across Wales through the morning, bringing further accumulations, especially over higher ground in the south. Snow will ease during the day, feeling bitterly cold. Maximum temperature 2 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:
It will be an icy start on Monday. Sunnier, drier and less cold by mid-week with lighter winds. Further overnight frosts.
