Snapper Gets American Award

A Llanelli based photographer has won an award from the Photographic society of America. Gary Shinner submitted a digital panel of 10 images and was awarded the BPSA (Bronze level) in February 2017. He is the first photographer in Wales and only one of a handful of U.K photographers to gain this level of award. It s all the more admirable as Gary is a self-taught photographer. One  of Gary’s passions is photographing architecture wherever he travels. In November 2015 he was awarded an ‘Associate of the Welsh Photographic federation’ (AWPF) for his mono panel work from a visit to the Valencia Science Park in 2014.

Speaking to Llanelli Online Gary said:

I have been taking photos since about 1983. I became more serious about photography in 1991 when I joined The Trostre/Velindre Camera Club in Llanelli, and I am  still an active member to date.

Gary holds a Licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society (LRPS) 2007. He became a member of PSA in 2009. He received his AFIAP in 2011 and his EFIAP in 2012. He launched his website  in 2010. He received his PPSA (Proficiency) in 2012, then EFIAP/bronze in April 2014 and his EPSA (Excellence) in 2015.

To date he has managed to get over 100 awards in PSA & FIAP run salons, and continues to chase more international acceptances, in the various divisions he participates in. He has managed to gain over 1,800 acceptances all over the globe, and these images can be viewed on his own webpage.

Since June 2014 Gary has been listed as a speaker in the WPF, where he goes to other clubs to show his audio visuals  successes  in his photographs over the last two decades.  Gary hopes that his successes will inspire other fellow photographers to seek out their own success.
