THE Scarlets suffered a heavy defeat against Exeter Chiefs at Parc Y Scarlets today in the first round of the Anglo Welsh cup.
The Welsh side, missing a large number of first team players through injury and international duty, fielded a young side with all but one of the starting XI aged 25 or under.
Chiefs, who led 12 – 0 at half time, scored six tries through Shaun Malton, James Freeman and Tom Hendrickson along with three penalty tries in a one sided encounter.
Final score: Scarlets 0 – 40 Exeter Chiefs
The young Scarlets side have a chance to bounce back next weekend when they face fellow welsh region Dragons at Rodney Parade in the second round of the cup.
