62 year old Robert David Hughes was found guilty following a trial at Swansea Crown Court today, Thursday (Jan 25) of 11 separate charges relating to child sexual abuse against five female victims.
Dyfed-Powys Police issued the following statement:
“These offences were committed whilst Mr Hughes was employed in two educational establishments within Carmarthenshire and Herefordshire, between 1979 and 1991.
“He was sentenced to a total term of 7 years imprisonment.”
Temporary Chief Superintendent Steve Cockwell, the Senior Investigating Officer said: “I am pleased with this verdict today, and hope that it will provide some sense of justice to the victims after all these years. This was a protracted investigation that forms part of a larger operation still in progress and involved a number of agencies. A dedicated investigation team was set-up to ensure a thorough investigation was conducted and that the victims were supported throughout the process.
“I hope that this result gives victims who have experienced similar abuse at any stage of their life the confidence to report it to the police, and that Dyfed-Powys Police will do everything in its power to bring offenders to justice.”
