A meeting was held this morning, Saturday (Jan 26) to discuss the recent gate and pillars which have been put up to block car access to the small car park in Machynys.
Approximately 20 people attended the impromptu meeting to voice their concerns. One local resident who was behind the idea said: “I didn’t back the gate at the start, but since it has gone up I am fully behind it.
“People have been parking here at night, throwing litter on the floor when there is a bin across the road and playing loud music.
“I have seen cars being driven down the path on the beach.”
The small area of land has been used by dog walkers and cyclists visiting the beach and Millennium coastal path for a number of years.
Since the arrival of the newly named ‘toll gate’ there has been a rise in the number of vehicles parked on the double yellow lines along the road.
Some proposed a new car park in the area.
Cllr Sean Rees spoke to Llanelli Online to discuss the issues raised from people both for and against the gate and told us what he thinks needs to be done to address concerns.
