Reds Wait Til Wednesday For League Title

Reds Wait Til Wednesday For League Title

Llanelli Town AFC will have to wait until Wednesday, (Apr 26) to be presented with the league title. Mathematically it will be theirs bar for a natural disaster of epic proportions. On Saturday (Apr 22) they took on Aberbargoed at Stebonheath in what could be described as tropical conditions for Llanelli. Llanelli looked on paper to have this game sewn up before it started but the visitors were not going to lie down without a fight. The Reds got off to a shaky start as a back pass almost found the Aberbargoed striker. Thankfully Craig Morris gathered the ball and The Reds settled down.

There were a couple of opportunities at either end of the field in the first half but the goals just did not manifest. Instead the fans basking in the Stebo sun settled for a half time score of 0 – 0 and a welcome cheeky vimto in the cafe. The second half was pretty much the same until James Loveridge was brought down inside the box for a penalty. Joe Clarke stepped up but the keeper managed to dive down low and parry the ball out for a corner.

The home crowd had to wait a bit longer before Jordan Follows gave The Reds the lead with a lovely header. By now Aberbargoed looked to be suffering in the heat and The Reds settled for playing the game out with their slender lead. It was enough for the victory and a reasonable warm up before the ‘Big Match’ on Wednesday evening when they should in theory take the title of league champions complete with a serenade from Cor Meibion Llanelli. It is a game not to be missed.
