Raiders Team Up With Hull

Raiders Team Up With Hull

Peter Tiffin writes for the West Wales Raiders. We will be featuring his article here each week.

AFTER a very productive week up with our partners at City of Hull Academy it didn’t take long for the staff from Hull to contact us at the Raiders regarding future dates for both to work together. The first set of dates that were discussed and organised were for the two junior raiders players to return for a full week’s trial. This was great news for both as they will be the first set of players from the raiders to achieve such an accolade. During the full weeks trial the players will also be looking to gain a place in the City of Hull Academy squads at both under 16s & 19 levels against Super League Opposition. This will involve the Raiders staff as they have been asked to be present during the week’s trial and fixtures.

Also from the partnership the Raiders have been asked by the City of Hull Academy if they could hold a trial at their other partner’s facilities (Scarlets) to find any other future stars to take up for another trail over the Easter period. The young players will be playing in a raiders representative rugby league nines team which will be viewed by the super league academy staff. All dates and times will be released very soon regarding the trial at Parc Y Scarlets.

This weekend sees the raiders first game back at Stebonheath Park this year. The raiders welcome partnered university Swansea University for a Sunday afternoon fixture. The staff and players have prepared this week with a double training session solely focusing on the simple game plans and plays with lots of defensive work. When chatting with head coach Jon Ellis regarding the fixture he said “I think I have been getting on the lads nerves this week as I have been very pedantic with regards to our technical aspects in defence, however if we need to be the best we can be at rugby league the players have had to buy into my mind-set and to be fair they have responded very well indeed. I hope they put it all in to practice on Sunday.

This weekend’s fixture will be free for everyone so come on down to Stebonheath Park this Sunday to enjoy a fast and entertaining game of rugby league.
