THE village of Pontyates gathered to remember the fallen today, Sunday (Nov 12) at the war memorial outside the Miner’s Welfare Hall. Although the numbers of veterans are dwindling many of the local organisations including the scouts and beavers turned out to pay tribute. The crowd were spared the awful weather, which hit the service in Llanelli at 11am as they were ensconced in the local church for a special Remembrance Service.
Vicar of Gwendreath Fawr church Cecelia Charles said: “It was important for the children to stand and remember here today. A lot of the veterans have passed away. We had a beautiful service in the church earlier today.”
Wreaths were placed by two veterans, the local fire service and a number of community organisations.
