Adam Price AM has written to the Hywel Dda Health Board to try and find out the position regarding the future of the Doctor’s surgery in Pontyates. Llanelli Online received a letter from Adam Price, which states that he along with Jonathan Edwards, Llangyndeyrn Community Council and County Councillor Tyssul Evans are fighting hard to resolve the problems at Meddygfa Sarn.
Jonathan Edwards and Adam Price met with the Community Council and the GP Practice Manager and have made representations to the Hywel Dda Health Board.
In the letter Adam Price states that he understands that the surgery will cease to offer a service from September 30th 2017 onwards. Llangyndeyrn Community Council has invited representatives from the Community Health Council and health board to attend a meeting in early June at which Mr price will be present.
Hywel Dda Health Board provided the following statement to Llanelli Online today, Monday (May 22)
Jill Paterson, Interim Director of Commissioning, Primary Care, and Therapies and Health Sciences at Hywel Dda, said: Meddygfa’r Sarn have made the difficult decision to return their General Medical Service contract to Hywel Dda University Health Board on the 30th September 2017. This decision was not taken lightly and the Health Board will now work to ensure that all patients continue to receive General Medical Services, that the handover of care goes smoothly and that patients notice very little change.
“The Health Board recognises how difficult this decision was for Meddygfa’r Sarn and appreciates the support the community and many patients have given over the years. The Health Board would like to reassure patients that the provision of General Medical Services will continue in the area and that patients do not need to take any action at this point as the Practice will remain open at present.
“Hywel Dda University Health Board is now in the process of considering the best way to continue GP services for patients and it is expected that a clear plan will be available by the end of June 2017.”
