Police warn of potentially ‘lethal’ ecstasy tablets in circulation

SOUTH Wales Police are issuing another public warning after linking a potentially lethal ecstasy tablet to a recent hospital admission in Rhondda.

So called ‘Punisher’ ecstasy tablets are believed to be circulating in the region and there are concerns that the drug could cost somebody their life.

A 21 year-old man was admitted to hospital in a serious condition on 17th December, 2018, but he has since made a full recovery.

The tablets are identifiable because they have the skull of The Punisher, the fictional Marvel comics character, pressed into the surface. They are also known to exist in different shapes and colours.

They contain a potentially lethal dose of MDMA and have been linked to a number of incidents across the UK.

It is the second specific drug warning issued by South Wales Police during the past week.

Yesterday the public were warned of dangerous morphine tablets, Zomorph, also believed to be in circulation.

People are urged not to take the Punisher pills if they have them or are offered them, and to contact police if they have any information about their supply.

DCI Tom Moore, said: “We have been able to speak to the individual involved since he recovered and now we are warning others.

“You can never be sure what you are taking when you use illegal substances and the side-effects are unpredictable and potentially life-threatening.

“Anybody who takes these pills are gambling with their life.”

Anybody with information about the supply of illegal drugs is urged to contact South Wales Police via 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
