PM Calls For General Election on June 8

Prime Minister Theresa May has announced a plan to call general election on 8 June. The PM says the new poll is in the national interest. She maintains that an Election is the only way to guarantee certainty and stability in the wake of Brexit, May says.

The PM said that she came “reluctantly” to the conclusion that a vote was necessary.

Downing Street has always denied a vote would be held before the next scheduled election in 2020.

In order to progress the PM needs to get a vote through Parliament. Early indications are that other political parties may back the vote for an election.

One of the burning issues, which appears to behind the move is the issue of Brexit.
