Phillip Thompson chosen as Kidwelly’s Mayor Elect for ‘Historic Year’

KIDWELLY Town Council has unanimously elected Councillor Philip Thompson as its Mayor Elect for the municipal year 2018/ 2019. Councillor Thompson will take up office on May 1st 2018 and there will be a civic service and ceremony in St. Mary’s Church Kidwelly on 12th May 2018.

This coming year will be a special one in the history of Kidwelly Mayors in that it marks the 400th year of Mayors in Kidwelly since Thomas Babington was made the first Mayor in 1618.

Speaking after the election Councillor Thompson said: “It is both an honour and a privilege and not a little humbling to be elected to serve as the next Mayor of Kidwelly. I look forward in my term of office as Mayor to meeting, working with and supporting our many community groups and organisations here in Kidwelly and Mynydd y Garreg, who’s work contributes so much to the spirit and wellbeing of our town.”

Phil added; “We also have a Town Council that is actively working together on a number of exciting projects for the benefit of our community, including working towards making Kidwelly a dementia friendly town, reducing the use of single use plastics and promoting and supporting new and existing community events.”

Phil concluded: “We have a beautiful town and a community to be proud of and I will do my best to promote our town and represent our community in my time as Mayor”.
