Phil Evans has his own unique brand of comedy. That is not to say that he isn’t always learning and keeping his eye on what some of the country’s funniest men and women are doing. So it was that our Phil went to see another Phill at Theatr Ffwrness on Friday (Nov 17). Phill Jupitus is on tour with his show Juplicity. “The show was not what I expected. Phill has his unique brand of showmanship and didn’t depend on a supporting act. The first half of the show was one of his characters – porky the poet.
Strategically placed furniture and props on stage were put to good use and Phill remained onstage throughout. Even the interval, when he took time to engage with his audience whilst dishing out cakes and biscuits.
This was a clever move and welcomed by everyone. The second half showed that Phill was a master storyteller and easily able to gag up a true story and give it just enough exaggeration to secure the believability factor.
Nobody left the theatre disappointed as Phill was able to engage with believable material whilst sharing his personal challenges.
