VANDALS have caused damage to the Burry Port Memorial Garden over the weekend of Saturday (Feb 3-4) The stainless steel silhouettes of armed forces servicemen were damaged and the Christmas lighting which remains in place throughout the year had been cut.
One of the silhouettes was taken away for repair. The gardens have been a focal point over the summer as the town won the prestigious Wales in Bloom award. The theme of the armed forces was used in the garden to brilliant effect.
Local resident Byron Williams said: “So much hard work went into creating the display in the garden. It beggars belief that someone would come along and vandalise such a wonderful community asset in the town.”
County Councillor Amanda Fox said: “Why would anyone do this ? This memorial garden means so much to our community. I hope whoever did do this realises why the silhouettes were put there! In honour of the service men and women who lost their lives all those years age. They could even be a relative of their own family of generations past.”
