Match Report: West Wales Raiders 6 – 54 North Wales Crusaders

Match Report: West Wales Raiders 6 – 54 North Wales Crusaders

By Sian Golden at Stebonheath Park for
NORTH Wales Crusaders put in a clinical second half performance to win 54-6 against an inexperienced West Wales Raiders side.
Dale Bloomfield leapt on a Ste Roper grubber kick to give North Wales an eighth minute lead, Tommy Johnson with a rare conversion miss.
Seven minutes later, the lead was doubled. A mistake by West Wales on their own 10 metre line led to Jack Houghton bulldozing his way over in the corner. Johnson converted.
Five minutes after that, Lee Hudson jumped over the line from close range for North Wales’ third try. Johnson added the extras making it 16-0.
Then followed Raiders’ best spell of the game as they had a number of opportunities near the try line. And it was Connor Farrer, on his debut in West Wales colours, who finally broke the Raiders’ duck by burrowing through the North Wales defence. Fraser Stroud converted.
Simon Atherton came close to adding to North Wales tally but was taken down by Raiders defence but they made it 22-6 with the final action of the first half through an Aaron Moore try that Johnson converted.
The floodgates opened in the second half as the Crusaders registered another six tries making it ten for the afternoon.
Ryan Smith passed to Simon Atherton who found his way through the Raiders back-line to the whitewash just four minutes in.  Johnson missed the kick.
A good move by the visitors saw James Dandy become the latest on the scoresheet. Houghton extended the lead on 53 minutes with his second as Danny Price broke through to create the try. That was before Bloomfield also scored his second as he drove his way through the West Wales defence. Johnson converted all three.
Danny Price added one of his own minutes later as Roper caused major problems for the Raiders. Johnson missed on this occasion.
Then with two minutes to go, Alex Davidson made no mistake as he was found by Stanton Albert. Johnson’s successful kick cemented the win.
