On WASPI National Local Day of Action, Plaid Cymru Llanelli candidate Mari Arthur has vowed to fight for the 4,000 Llanelli women who lost out on the retirement they planned for after the Conservatives hiked up the state pension age without warning.
Mari Arthur pledged her support to the WASPI campaign and said that Plaid Cymru would fight to right the injustice done to all women born in the 1950s affected by the changes to the State Pension Law.
Plaid Cymru Llanelli candidate Mari Arthur said: “When it changed the state pension age without warning, the cruel Conservative party effectively robbed women of thousands of pounds. Some of them had their state pension age delayed twice, and by up to six years in total.
“Around 4,000 women from Llanelli were affected by these changes which were made without proper notice. My mother is one of them. It has left many without adequate time to prepare for their later retirement date.
“These women deserve the pension they planned and prepared for. Whilst Plaid Cymru supports equalising the state pension age, this should be done gradually so that people are given adequate time to prepare.
“That’s why I’m pledging my support to the WASPI campaign today, and will stand firm with the thousands of women from Llanelli and from across Wales who have had their pensions delayed by this cruel Conservative government.”
