‘The land and people the council forgot’ is a phrase, which has been used in the past for a housing estate at Brynmefys, North of Llanelli. The same phrase has been used once more this time by residents on the Maengwynne estate just a stone’s throw away from Brynmefys.
Derek Harman who lives at one of the properties on Maengwynne called Llanelli Online and invited us to visit his home to witness first hand the awful conditions he and his young family are living in.We made a short film of our visit, which you can see here.
A statement from Carmarthenshire County Council was received after we had published the film. It reads as follows: Head of Public Protection and Housing Robin Staines said: “We are currently undertaking site inspections at Maengwynne and will continue liaising with tenants to ensure necessary repairs are undertaken.”
