DOUGLAS Davies celebrated his incredible 100th birthday at the end of May. Though celebrations had to be limited due to Covid-19, several people still came to his door to wish him a happy birthday.
Along with a special birthday card from the Queen, Davies was also presented with a watercolour painting of the Palace of Westminster, given by MP Nia Griffith and signed by Gordon Brown.
Born and bred in Dafen, Davies remembers the village cricket pitch being built, and would later score the first century there before playing for Glamorgan.
He worked on GWR all his working life, as a cleaner, fireman, and driver. After retirement Davies became a very good bowls player. He also loves gardening and driving, incredibly only giving up both last year.
His son Trafford, along with us here at Llanelli Online, wishes him a very happy birthday.
