Llansaint Carnival2 from Llanelli Online on Vimeo.
WHAT a fantastic carnival it was at Llansaint on Saturday (Jul29). Not only did the whole community turn out for this biggest small carnival in Wales but there was a delegation of children over from Chernobyl who were having a wonderful time thanks to the kindness and generosity of those living in and around the village.
One of the delegates accompanying the children told Llanelli Online that this was one of the first opportunities many of the children would have of eating uncontaminated food.
The Chernobyl nuclear disaster was a catastrophic nuclear incident. It occurred on 26 April 1986 in the No.4 light water graphite moderated reactor at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant near Pripyat, in what was then part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic of the Soviet Union (USSR).
Practically all of the radioactive material would then go on to fall-out/precipitate onto much of the surface of the western USSR and Europe.
Attending the event were Black Kat Radio who did a fine job MC’ing the event. Crwbin Band were on form providing the live music and despite the threat of rain, the skies above Llansaint remained blue. This was a carnival , which was a credit to the community.
