A PROJECT to encourage female leaders of the future across Wales will focus on careers in the police force via a virtual event next week.

The LeadHerShip programme is bringing together five inspiring women from across the Police Force in Wales for a webinar on Wednesday 2 December from 12-1.30pm.

Run by Chwarae Teg, LeadHerShip is aimed at 16-25 year old women and aims to ensure they become better represented in decision-making roles, and provides them with a platform to get their voices heard.

Taking part will be:

· Police Officer and BAME Recruitment Champion Siobhan Aldridge, South Wales Police
· Chief Inspector Lisa Gore, South Wales Police
· Chief Inspector Emma Naughton, North Wales Police
· Police Community Support Officer, Robina Ahmed North Wales Police
· Detective Chief Inspector Tracey Rankine, South Wales Police

The webinar will give an insight into their day jobs, how they arrived at their careers, and take a look at leadership and diversity within the force. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions.

Detective Chief Inspector Tracey Rankine, South Wales Police, won in the Leadership category at Chwarae Teg’s Womenspire Awards 2020, said: “I am really looking forward to the webinar, to share my enthusiasm and passion for being a detective with others and to encourage them to do the same. It’s interesting, challenging, I get to work with some fantastic people, help others and it’s been an incredibly rewarding and exciting career.”

PC Siobhan Aldridge, South Wales Police, said: “I truly believe that if I can be a Police Officer, anyone can, but what you need is that fire and determination in yourself to be and inspire difference. You can hold the ability to positively impact people’s lives! Your uniqueness, is your empowerment and that is what I strive to live by.”

Emma Tamplin, Chwarae Teg, said: “I’m delighted we have such an accomplished line up ready to share their experiences with young women. The police officers involved work in a variety of roles in the force, so there is something for everyone to be interested in, and I’m sure what they to say will inspire future generations.

“This webinar is the first of our new series of LeadHerShip events, which will continue with further online career talks with aspirational leaders across the sectors in Wales.”
