The International Rugby Coaching Initiative is looking for coaches & knowledgeable players who want to teach rugby, to travel to India, Sir Lanka and China to pass on their knowledge of the game of rugby to youngsters who want to play rugby.
Ammanford based NEI UK Ltd., Wales’ longest established tour operator specialising in India and South Asia has been arranging holidays there for 25 years. Eric and Peter, the two Directors, have often wondered what would be an appropriate way to help repay those countries which have played such a large part in our lives. They have supported various charities over the years but wanted to do something different. The answer came in the form of Wales’ national game – rugby.
Peter Rees-Jones, Director of NEI UK continued, “Coaches are in short supply in these countries and what better way than to take coaches and knowledgeable players who want to teach rugby to youngsters who want to learn to play. It is little known that rugby is a rapidly developing sport in India and other South Asian and Far Eastern countries and being a Welsh based company, what could be more appropriate than to play a part in the development of the game in those countries? Especially, as the people helping develop rugby in India are Welsh – Bee Trotter & husband Dave from Swansea, in Goa and Paul Walsh from north Wales, in Kolkata.
“The popularity of rugby, especially amongst the literally thousands of youngsters playing at grass roots level, has thrown up a problem: a lack of coaches. We have now formed a Not For Profit Community Interest Company, the International Rugby Coaching Initiative (IRCI)with the aim of identifying people here in Wales who would be willing and keen to volunteer to travel to India and Sri Lanka, and other places in the future, to help out the rugby clubs which already exist throughout these countries by coaching the youngsters for, perhaps, a month. A website www.irci.co.uk has just been launched which provides more information.”
IRCI is now fundraising to make sure that a steady supply of volunteers is available to travel abroad and take part in this worthy cause. Companies small and large and individuals are warmly invited to participate. If you are interested, like to support or would like more information visit the IRCI website – www.irci.co.uk or call Eric or Peter on 01269 823355
