Hywel Dda University Health Board is celebrating after a project made the finals of this year’s NHS Wales Awards, announced on Friday (May 19).
The health board is up for the following award:
• Citizens At The Centre Of Service Re-Design And Delivery (supported by Wales Council for Voluntary Action) for “Working Hand in Hand to Transform Mental Health”
Hywel Dda University Health Board Chief Executive Steve Moore said: “We set out our stall some time ago in terms of always engaging with people in the everything that we do, so it’s fantastic that these efforts have been recognised in this way and have led to a place on the shortlist for such a prestigious award.
“We began this journey over two years ago and started by being honest about the need to move away from traditional well-meaning work to redesign services for the benefit of local people to a place where we are able to actually empower our population as a willing partner in debating, discussing and then jointly deciding on how to fundamentally make things better.
“By starting with what matters most to service users, their friends, family and carers, we know we can deliver flexible, responsive, and accessible mental health services, which will offer people the best possible outcomes and treat them with kindness and compassion wherever and whenever they need our help.
“Reaching the shortlist also highlights our ongoing commitment to ensuring we approach all service development in this way, across the whole of Hywel Dda, using our mental health programme as a gold standard. I’m incredibly proud and grateful to everyone whose hard work has helped to get us to this point – it’s truly been a team effort.”
Now in its 10th year, the annual NHS Wales Awards celebrate the work of organisations and teams across Wales in delivering excellent care and the winners will be announced in a ceremony on 21 September 2017.
The judging panel of NHS experts had the tough task of selecting the 21 finalists in seven award categories. The next stage is for the judging panels to visit each finalist to find out more and see first-hand the benefits they’ve brought to patients.
The NHS Wales Awards are organised by 1000 Lives which is the national improvement service for NHS Wales delivered by Public Health Wales.
