Hendy Nature Trail set to open

Hendy Nature Trail set to open

A nature trail in Hendy is set to open on October 24th.

Hendy Nature Trail is an exciting new nature trail around the perimeter of the former Cricket ground in Hendy.

The trail takes advantage of a wonderful location on the edge of the Loughour Estuary.

It includes an all access path, habitat improvement, information boards about local wildlife and bird life as well as bird screens.

The project aims to benefit the whole community. Entrance is free.

The project has attracted an active band of over 30 volunteers who help maintain the site and record species. Collectively they have contributed over 300 hours of volunteer time to date

There will also be a junior rangers project for children aged 4+.

The site supports 4 different habitats and has a selection of exotic trees from all around the world.

Over 70 species of bird, 20 species of butterflies and 60 species of moths have been recorded on site as well as reptiles and mammals.

Some of the visiting birds come all the way from Africa.

The estuary is internationally recognised for its scientific importance.

Llanedi Community Council owns the land and supports the project. The Community Council is able to support this project thanks to funding secured from Welsh Government’s Landfill Disposal Tax Community Scheme, administered by WCVA.
