Hendy M4 junction to get £2.9m upgrade from the end of March

WORKS to upgrade the M4 junction at Hendy from the end of the month have been welcomed by Llanelli MS Lee Waters and MP Nia Griffith.

Heavy congestion here at peak times is well known to anyone travelling in and out of Llanelli. The proposed £2.9m works will involve carriageway widening of the A4138, new traffic signals on the M4 Westbound off-slip and Tal-y-Coed junctions, and better provision for pedestrians and cyclists.

Lee Waters MS said:

“I’ve been campaigning for five years (and Nia Griffith has been at it a lot longer) to help residents in Tal-y-Coed get out of their estate in the morning, and help ease the general congestion getting on to the M4 at busy times.

“I’m pleased that the Council are now getting on with this significant programme of improvements after I helped to secure funding. Inevitably there will be some disruption while the work is carried out, which will be frustrating for all of us for a time, but hopefully it’ll be worth it and make travelling through here safer and more convenient for everyone.”

Nia Griffith said:

“I am glad that these measures will now be implemented to ease traffic hold ups in the area.  Residents have been campaigning for this to happen for many years and they can’t come too soon.

The funding from the Welsh Labour Government is to be welcomed and I look forward to seeing what difference these changes will make to what has been a longstanding problem for the community of Hendy.”
