LLANELLI’S AM Lee Waters says that he is concerned that the Hywel Dda University Health Board continue to have difficulties in finding GP’s to cover the out of hour services at the Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli. Speaking to Llanelli Online this evening the AM said:
“I’ve just spoken to the Chief Executive of Hywel Dda Health Board after a statement was issued to say they could not find GPs to cover out of hours tonight and tomorrow night at Prince Phillip Hospital. The same thing happened on Sunday. Thankfully they have now found some for this week.
“I’ve had a detailed briefing on the efforts made over the last week and a half to fill the gap in the GP rota. With some of their regular GPs away and one off sick they are really struggling to find enough Doctors to provide cover, and they are having problems in Glangwili too.
“Nobody thinks this is good enough.
“The Chief Executive assures me he thinks things should be back to normal by the end of the month but they are expecting some problems in the meantime.
“This is not only a problem in our health board but right across the UK at the moment. The NHS is under enormous strain.
“We can help by using the pharmacy, NHS Direct and the 111 phone service.
“And the Health Board needs to do more to actively recruit more GPs from across the area to help out in out of hours.”
