Health Board gives reassurances on out-of-hours GP services

FOLLOWING concerns raised earlier today by Llanelli’s AM Lee Waters regarding the future of the out-of-hours GP services for Llanelli the Hywel Dda University Health Board have moved to alleviate the concerns of residents.

Llanelli Online contacted the Health Board for a statement and they issued the following response: “Following an open and honest meeting with staff and GP colleagues last night (Tuesday, 10 October) the health board would like to strongly reassure the public that there are no plans to close any of our treatment centre bases or alter Out of Hours service provision in any way.”

Joe Teape, Director of Operations and Deputy Chief Executive, said: “As a result of new legislation from HMRC which oversees how self-employed Out of Hours GPs work with the NHS in Wales, our Out of Hours Management Team are holding meetings with GPs and staff within the service to better understand how this new tax rule may affect GPs working for us.

“We value the work of all of our staff in helping us to deliver safe, high quality care and treatment and these meetings are part of our commitment to supporting everyone working within the Out Of Hours service. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and share any updates with our staff and the public.”
