RESIDENTS in Heol Dyfnallt, Carmarthen, have been given notice of exploratory groundworks in the area over the next few weeks.
A gas works used to occupy the site before houses were built there. The works served the former St David’s Hospital and was demolished in 1938.
The council undertakes regular inspections on the land as a precautionary measure, and has appointed contractors to check the conditions on a number of green open spaces between Heol Dyfnallt and Bro Myrddin.
Local members – Cllr Emlyn Shiavone and Cllr Alan Speake – have been made aware of the forthcoming works and are supporting the council to communicate with residents.
A letter has also been issued to all households in the estate informing them of intended activity.
Cllr Philip Hughes, executive board member for public protection, said: “Some time ago Carmarthenshire County Council undertook an investigation into ground conditions at Heol Dyfnallt due to the gas works that used to occupy the site many years ago.
“In order to reassure ourselves that there has been no significant change since the last ground survey, we will be carrying out some follow-up work in the next few weeks to monitor ground conditions. This is only precautionary and to check that conditions remain satisfactory.”
The work will not require access to anyone’s property, and residents will not need to be home when the survey is being done.
