Grammar & Graig St David’s Event

George Parker presenting a cheque for £250

LLANELLI Boys Grammar and Graig Former Pupils Association held a glittering St David’s Day evening at the Stradey Park Hotel this evening, Wednesday (March 1). The event was to celebrate the work of the association in supporting local causes including Education, Entrepreneurialism, The Arts, Sport and Health. Guests had travelled from far and wide including one former pupil Alun Davies who had travelled from South Africa for the event. George Parker of Parker Plant Hire presented a cheque for £250 to Ski For All Wales. The money was being used to take partially sighted and physically disabled people skiing using specially adapted ski chairs.

The MC for the evening was Paul Oram. Entertainment was provided by The Philharmonics who performed numbers from their forthcoming CD including some Elvis Presley and Queen numbers. Being St David’s Day they threw in a fair smattering of Welsh songs including a very upbeat version of Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau.

Rev Eldon Phillips

The Reverend Eldon Phillips read from ‘Under Milk Wood’ and informed the audience that his father Stanley Phillips had won an award for having performed in Under Milk Wood more times than anyone else.

The next meeting of the association is at Llanelly House when the Rev Dr. Leslie Griffiths, Lord Griffiths of Burry Port will be giving a special talk on John Wesley. The Association has also been invited to attend the House of Lords as guests of Lord Howard of Lympne.
