Felinfoel are the winners of the R & N A French Challenge Cup having beaten Llandeilo Town by two goals to one at Stebonheath today, Saturday (Apr 15). Felinfoel got off to a great start through a goal from Tom Roberts after 29 minutes. Seven minutes later Sion Mattey equalised and it remained that way at half time. There really was very little separating the two teams in this rerun of last year’s cup final.
Both teams gave their all throughout the second half. There were plenty of missed opportunities at both ends and it looked as if the game was going to go into extra time. Fortune favoured Felinfoel and Tom Roberts in the 76th minute when he put Felinfoel ahead with a wonderful strike at goal. Llandeilo did not relent and made further impressive attacks and with only a few minutes of extra time remaining they hit the target but alas the referee Phil Jones ruled it offside.
It was a truly entertaining game with hardly a yellow card issued. The level of football can commitment from both teams was admirable. Llandeilo will consider themselves unlucky not to have pushed Felinfoel to extra time at least but Foel it was who deservedly lifted the cup at Stebonheath. The game ended Felinfoel 2 – Llandeilo Town 1
