AN INDEPENDENT councillor who was elected to Llanelli Rural Council as a member of Plaid Cymru has defected to join the Conservatives.
Cllr Jordan Randall, who has represented Swiss Valley since 2017, said Llanelli Conservatives “share my ambition to make Llanelli an even better place to live, work and raise a family.”
“Plaid Cymru – who claim to represent Wales – let down the people of Llanelli on the issue of Brexit. That was what made me realise that in order to represent residents, I needed to join a party that respects ordinary working people and what they voted for.
“Now that Brexit’s done, we should all be getting behind Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s plan to level up Britain and invest in communities like ours in Llanelli that have had such a raw deal under the Welsh Labour Government in Cardiff Bay.
“I think the Conservatives are the only party with their finger on the pulse when it comes to issues that local people care about and that will take our town forward.”
Cllr Siôn Davies, the leader of the Conservative Group on Llanelli Town Council, has welcomed Cllr Randall, saying:
“I’m proud to welcome Cllr Randall into the Welsh Conservative Party. He’s a strong addition to a team that’s already bursting with ideas and ambition for our town.
“Being a councillor is about working together to improve the lives of people in our communities. And I’m looking forward to campaigning with Jordan to ensure residents get the very best from their council.”
