Fans raise concerns over potential Scarlets and Ospreys merger

Rivalry: Scarlets and Ospreys

FANS of both Scarlets and Ospreys have taken to social media to voice their concerns over the potential merger between the two clubs in what would be a shock announcement.

There will be a meeting tomorrow by Welsh rugby bosses, Monday (Mar 5) where they will discuss the possible move which is labelled ‘Project Reset’.

Wales currently has four professional rugby regions, they are Scarlets, Ospreys, Cardiff Blues and Dragons.

The WRU are looking towards a new professional rugby region in North Wales.

A large number of Scarlets and Ospreys fans have been giving their opinions on the shock news on social media.

One fan simply said: “It would be the death of Welsh regional rugby.”

Another fan said: “Llanelli and the Scarlets have a passion and history not many teams come near and we must not at any cost let the legacy die.”

The thought of Llanelli and Swansea playing as one was too much for some. Frances said: “I couldn’t support a merged team I’m afraid. It’s because we are such passionate rugby supporters that we say no.”

Kevin said: “If a Scarlets/Ospreys merger is approved, my season ticket will be returned. I would rather watch Llanelli RFC than a mongrel region.”

The majority of comments painted a bleak picture. Cive said: “This is shocking it would be the death of Scarlets.”

Geraint said: “I really hope it won’t happen. Merging both Wales most successful regions into a super region is ridiculous.”
