Elves to the rescue to ensure Santa’s carnival carriage

LLANELLI’S Christmas carnival lead float has failed its MOT.
Have no fear. Christmas is not cancelled.

Nobody’s in danger, Santa doesn’t have to resort to his bike and presents will be delivered and, thankfully, Wales’s biggest Christmas carnival will go ahead in Llanelli Town Centre on Friday night with Santa at the helm.

There will be no need or Rudolph’s nose to be flashing red not blue like the police cars ahead of the procession of 16 floats this year. A team of Santa’s workshop elves have come to the rescue to make sure the 20,000 crowd expected to flood the town centre will not be disappointed.

Santa’s workshop have been working round the clock to salvage the day and Gravells of Kidwelly and Narberth Round Table have dashed to Llanelli’s carnival aid loaning their float and making sure it has wheels, wings and skis.

After spearheading Llanelli’s carnival for many years and being the centrepiece of dozens of parades for different community groups, the Swansea City Council float has sadly failed the MOT with it chassis rusting and it may end up on the scrapheap.

It is not available to rent and is not featuring in Swansea’s Christmas lights switch-on this year for the first time in 30 years.

County executive member for culture sport and tourism Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths said: “Carnival organisers have had a few heart stopping moments this year over Santa’s sleigh.

“But the generous hearts of Gravells, Kidwelly, and Narberth Round Table have saved the day to make sure Santa and Rudolph’s carriage glows brightly ahead of the stunning carnival parade.”
