Jacqui Thompson is no stranger to controversy having been embroiled in legal battles with Carmarthenshire County Council and the CEO Mark James for a number of years. Thompson was arrested in 2011 for filming a council meeting from the public gallery at County Hall. What followed were claims and counter claims, court appearances and judgements culminating in Thompson having to pay Mark James £25,000 in damages and £250 per month as a result of another judgement. The council is also pursuing Thompson for legal costs of £190, 393, which if defaulted on could see Mrs Thompson losing her home.
In this latest battle Mrs Thompson was being taken on for harassment however the The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said a decision was taken to discontinue her case.
Speaking to Llanelli Online following the decision by the CPS to discontinue the case Mrs Thompson said:
I feel relieved and vindicated that this has been discontinued by the CPS, after eighteen months of stress. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me through this deeply stressful and unnecessary episode. I can’t comment further at the moment, other than to thank everyone for their support.
