Council freeze school meal prices

Council freeze school meal prices

SCHOOL meals will remain at £2.50 for the next year, Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board has confirmed.

Executive board members have agreed the freeze on price during Monday’s meeting.

It had been approved during the 2018/19 budget that the meals be increased by 10p to £2.60, but Cllr Glynog Davies, executive board member for education, has been working with officers to find ways of avoiding the increase.

He told fellow members during the meeting that funding has now been identified within the education budget.

During the meeting he said: “There is a concern that another increase would be detrimental to the service, leading to less children having school meals. Officers have found the money within the education budget so I recommend a freeze on the prices to £2.50.

“I am proud of this service and am assured that the standard of food is excellent, healthy and nutritious which our young people in the schools need.”
