Council continues battle with the weather

CARMARTHENSHIRE county council continues its battle with the weather with attempts to keep roads clear.

In a statement issued this evening Friday (Mar 2) they said: “Air temps remain below freezing and road surface temperatures throughout the region are below zero. Conditions are very variable across the county. There may be more flurries of snow this evening along with sleet in parts, so roads will be icy, please take extra care.

“Presalt treatment with ploughs was undertaken this afternoon from 1pm and again at 4.30pm along all main roads in the county. Further grit/plough started at 8pm. We’ll repeat through the night.

“Additionally, we’ve been on the A483 Sugarloaf because of drifting snow, and at Waterloo Terrace, Carmarthen, because of water on road from fire crews attending fire at the Penlan building.

“Blockages on the A485 at Llanllwni/Alltwalis following an RTC has now been cleared

“Road closed from Ponthenri Bridge up to Meinciau past the Baltic due to treacherous conditions, this road will be treated in the morning.

“There is an overhanging tree on the B4310 Nantgaredig to Porthyrhyd, clearance underway.”
