Beach walk to raise money and awareness of suicide in young people returns to Swansea

A BEACH walk to raise money and awareness of suicide in young people returns to Swansea later this month. Swansea University's Wellbeing Service is hosting HOPEWALK 2022 on Sunday, October 30 in aid of PAPYRUS , the suicide prevention charity which offers confidential support and advice to young people. It will be the fourth time the University has organised the three-mile circular beach walk which will start and finish at The Secret Bar and Kitchen on Oystermouth Road. Anyone who wants to take part should meet there at 10am. Almost 100 people joined the first event back in 2019 and even during Covid socially distanced walkers stepping out at locations of their choice collected nearly £1,000.…

Swansea Science Festival to feature week-long programme of events

THIS year's Swansea Science Festival will feature a week-long programme of in-person events, including a talk from award-winning TV presenter and conservationist Chris Packham, when it returns this autumn. The Festival, hosted by Swansea University in partnership with the National Waterfront Museum, runs from 31 October - 6 November with events taking place across Swansea's LC, Taliesin Arts Centre, Oriel Science and National Waterfront Museum. An early bird discount of 22% is available for bookable events up until midnight on Sunday 9 October. The theme of this year's Festival is 'frontiers' and visitors of all ages will be able to enjoy demonstrations, shows, and workshops based on everyday science through to the latest cutting-edge innovations. The popular Family Weekend, which has attracted nearly 10,000 visitors in previous years, will be held on 5 and 6 November and will feature more than 30 free interactive exhibitions designed to take visitors' minds on a journey of discovery. On 31 October, wildlife biologist and broadcaster Lizzie Daly will host a Spooktacular Science quiz night for families at the National Waterfront Museum, featuring questions about all things weird and wonderful in natural science.
