Jack Sparrow Visit's Llanelli Market from Llanelli Online on Vimeo.
Cap'n Jack Sparrow has been a busy man popping in to hospitals around the World but today, Thursday (Aug 17) he was at Llanelli Market as market traders made an attempt to attract shoppers. Cap'n Jack posed for photos with children, which were then offered for free. There was pirate face painting and a number of the market stall holders had made an effort to dress up as pirates.
The initiative is seen as essential in trying to bring in shoppers in the shadow of the Trostre Shopping Centre, which added a huge new Primark store to its portfolio today.
The traders remain upbeat but say that they need more support from the council. The market itself has had an overhaul and there have been investments in the town centre with new shops appearing on the High Street. Some stall holders maintain that free parking is still one of the key elements for attracting the same people who park for free at Trostre.
The Ymlaen Llanelli BID is also hoping to help local businesses with a series of events including a Superhero day, which includes a 'Batmobile' on the day. Llanelli, like any other town is having to adapt and look at ways of selling itself as providing something unique for the visitor. The market traders will be hoping that the task force will deliver the goods sooner rather than later.
