Bynea Cycling Club set off on a very special cycle ride on Sunday (Apr 2) as they followed the route of the club’s very first cycle ride to Trapp and Carreg Cennen Castle. Around 85 cyclists set off at 10 am and headed for Pontarddulais, on to Garnswllt, Ammanford, Pontamman and finally into Trapp. When they arrived the cyclists headed for a well earned cup of tea at the Castle Cafe.
While there they made a barn find. It is rare for a cyclist not to get excited over a bicycle but this was something else. Not a two wheeler, not a unicycle but a vintage tricycle. Amazingly, the old girl still worked as Andy Grist jumped aboard and gave it a run downhill.
Perhaps someone should have advised him to check the brakes but the headstrong, bearded, lycra clad, velo mad geezer pedalled away anyway. Lucky for him the tricycle was built to last and had retained a slither of oil, which miraculously enabled the breaks to work.
Bynea cycling club has been going for 80 years and has a large number of members. The club meets on Wednesday evenings at the clubhouse, which is still in the same location, just down a lane near the Harry Phillips car garage at Bynea.
