A day to remember as Scarlets soar into semi-final of Europe

A day to remember as Scarlets soar into semi-final of Europe

SCARLETS have made the semi-finals of the European Champions Cup for the first time since 2007 after defeating La Rochelle 29-17 at a bouncing Parc Y Scarlets.

In front of a record sold-out crowd of almost 15,500, Scarlets became the first Welsh region in six years to reach the last four of Europe.

The result means the Scarlets will either face reigning champions Saracens in Coventry or travel to Dublin to face Leinster.

Wayne Pivac’s side, backed by a superb home atmosphere, topped their pool in the group stages which included Toulon, Bath and Benetton.

The visitors scored their points through tries from Sazy and Boudehent, with Bales and Noble kicking two conversions and a penalty between them.

For the Welsh region, Rhys Patchell and Scott Williams both crossed while Leigh Halfpenny kicked 19 points in a fine performance off the tee.

Final Score: Scarlets 29 – 17 La Rochelle

Man of the match: Ken Owens (Scarlets)

Up next for the Scarlets, they return to the Pro14 where they welcome high flyers Glasgow Warriors to Parc Y Scarlets on Saturday (April 6).
