A £6.7million investment has been completed at Llanelli’s Coedcae School to include a new science block and refurbishment of the existing building.
The official opening will take place on December 7 at 1.45pm, which will include entertainment by the pupils, unveiling of the plaque and speeches by dignitaries.
The scheme was delivered through the county council’s Modernising Education Programme (MEP).
It included an extension to replace an old block with a new science block, removal of mobile accommodation and refurbishment of the existing building.
Improvements to transport and pedestrian access were also carried out with covered walkways throughout the site.
Half the funding for the scheme came from a Welsh Government grant, through its 21st Century Schools initiative, and the other half from the council’s MEP.
Education executive board member Cllr Glynog Davies, who will perform the official opening, said: “This investment will provide first class facilities for pupils at Coedcae.
“It will provide young people with an excellent working environment to help them reach their full potential.”
A music and technology centre was also delivered at Coedcae as part of the Llanelli Vocational Village project.
The village is a pioneering scheme developed specifically to offer top of the range learning opportunities for secondary schoolchildren in the Llanelli area.
A construction skills centre of excellence, built on the site of Bryngwyn School, is one of the elements which has already been completed.
A specialist catering training facility will be developed at St John Lloyd Catholic School; a performing arts and media facility at Ysgol Y Strade; and a caring and child care facility at Glan y Môr.
Pupils can attend any of the five elements that make up the village, regardless of which school they go to, creating a person-centred approach to vocational learning.
Cllr Davies added: “The Vocational Village will increase the number and range of courses available to pupils aged between 14 and 19.
“It will be delivered through collaboration between the schools, Coleg Sir Gar, work based providers and the voluntary sector.
“The village will offer the right facilities to achieve high standards in pupils’ chosen courses.”
