Emergency services called to house fire in Pontyates

THE Emergency Services were called out to a house fire on Heol Llanelli in Pontyates today, Sunday (Jul 22).

A bystander told Llanelli Online that the fire had begun at approximately 7pm although that has not yet been confirmed by Mid and West Wales Fire and rescue Service.

There were no reports of anyone having been injured.

The fire appears to have taken hold in a bedroom in the two storey cottage.

Police attend early morning two vehicle RTC in Pontyates

THE School run had just finished when two vehicles were involved in a road traffic collision (RTC) in Pontyates today, Friday (Jul 20).

The two vehicles appear to have collided outside the Texaco service station in the village.

There were no reports of anyone having been injured.

The incident occurred approximately between 9 to 9.15 am.

Twmpath brings Pontyates Welfare Hall to life

PONTYATES Welfare Hall was alive to the sound of Welsh music this evening, Saturday, (Jul 14) a families gathered to take part in a Twmpath. Earlier in the day there were two treasure hunts. One for young children and one for adults. Both trails took in the beautiful Gwendraeth Valley and made use of some of the historic features for clues.

Following the return to the hall the treasure hunters were treated to food and drink. This was yet another great family event...

Pontyates Walking Treasure Hunt

A Walking Treasure Hunt for all ages comes to Pontyates on Saturday (Jul 14).

It begins at 2pm at the Welfare Hall and costs £3 per adult with children aged under 11 for free.

Emergency Services attend RTC on B4309 Heol Y Meinciau

THE Emergency Services attended a single vehicle RTC on the B4309 at Heol Y Meinciau today, Tuesday (Jul 3).

Local bystanders told us that the accident took place at approximately 8pm this evening.

The road was closed in both directions shortly afterwards. It has since reopened.

One local resident who did not wish to be named said that the driver had suffered minor injuries and had been taken away by ambulance. They also said that a paramedic living close by had rushed to the scene...

Pontyates dispense with visiting Pontardawe

PONTYATES managed an impressive victory over visiting Pontardawe on Saturday (Apr 28).

The home side were without their captain Jamie Cooper. Readers will remember that he broke his leg in a game against Cefneithin.

A decent home crowd and visiting fans gathered to watch the game on what was in rugby circles Judgement Day in Cardiff.

Here in the Gwendraeth the judgement was that Pontyates were declared undoubted winners of a fiercely contested game of rugby.

The hall opened on 5/2/1938 and there was apparently a chair shortage. Documents on view included one, which said:

Miner’s Welfare Hall still important 80 years on

THE first of many celebrations planned to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the building of the Miner's Welfare Hall in Pontyates took place today, Monday (Mar 5).
