Pembrey chosen to host Tour of Britain opening

PEMBREY Country Park has been announced as the official location for the “Grand Depart” (start) of the 2018 OVO Energy Tour of Britain.

The announcement was made in central London on Tuesday evening.

THE 2018 OVO Energy Tour of Britain will begin in South Wales for the first time as Carmarthenshire and Newport host the opening stage of Britain’s national Tour on Sunday 2 September.

Punishing pedalling at Pembrey as Battle On The Beach returns

THE annual Battle On The Beach took place this weekend Saturday and Sunday (Apr 14-15) at Pembrey Country Park.
The event which draws in thousands of people to the area benefitted from glorious sunshine on the Saturday whereas it was a much cooler affair with showers on the Sunday.

Participants had the opportunity to camp within the Country Park and there were plenty of stalls providing food and entertainment including live music.

A big community and a big gesture from Halfords has meant that Gareth McKibbin from Burry Port has received a brand new bicycle and he is over the moon.

The Pembrey Cycling Club mentioned what had happened to Gareth to Gareth Owens the Bike Hut manager at Halfords in Carmarthen. Mr Owens had no hesitation in arranging for Gareth to have a new bike free of charge courtesy of Halfords.

THE annual Swansea Bike Ride, which has been running for 25 years has been cancelled. Organisers claim that the event is ‘no longer profitable’.

Closed Road Cycling Circuit plans move up a gear

EXCITING plans to develop a Closed Road Cycling Circuit at Pembrey Country Park have moved up a gear.

Members of the public and interested parties are being asked to give their views and contribute to the proposals as part of a pre-planning consultation exercise.
