DESPITE a morning of torrential downpours, thunder and lightning, the villagers of Llansaint turned out in force to enjoy the 11th Llansaint Carnival on Saturday (Jul 28).

The carnival procession began with the joyful sounds of the Crwbin Silver Band who opted not to play ‘Bring Me Sunshine’ during a let up in the storm.

Local organisations were present as ever bolstering the support for the carnival and providing much needed refreshments and stalls to add that local touch. They included; Llansaint Women’s Institute, Llansaint Gardening Club and Llansaint Camera Club. Jim Belcher from Black Cat Radio belted out the tunes and offered commentary on proceedings.

There was no shortage of folks in fancy dress and the contest was a difficult one to judge. That duty fell to Councillor Mair Stephens who was ably assisted by Ieuan Davies. The procession included a mermaid, a Land Girl, the Swiss Family Robinson,  Popeye and Olive Oil to name but a few.

Chairman of the Hall Committee Arfon Davies was more than happy with the day’s proceedings. He said: “People were not put off by the weather and there is an excellent turn-out once again. Special thanks must go to Jim Belcher for heroically turning up today. We would also like to  thank everyone for supporting the Welfare Hall Carnival as always.”
